May God grant you the wonderful blessing of helping others through Special Ministries! Special Education - Assisting congregations in establishing special religious training for members who are developmentally disabled (cognitively disabled or mentally retarded). Health and Wellness - We encourage pastors and lay members to minister to people with special needs, especially to the elderly and to people in hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living centers. Military Services - WELS Military Services provides spiritual services to WELS members and others who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. In addition to regularly providing spiritual materials such as "Meditations," sermons, prayers and devotional services, we send and support civilian chaplains to minister at military installations and in areas of hostility. WELS provides spiritual services to military personnel at U.S. installations through a network of over 120 WELS military contact pastors. Also see military.wels.net. Prison Ministry - Mission partners in the area of prison ministry help get spiritual literature and Bibles to people who cannot attend one of our churches. We conduct much of our ministry through the mail, sending materials from our distribution center at New Ulm, MN. Bible study lessons may need to be corrected and words of encouragement written to the prisoner completing the Bible study. You might become a pen pal, providing needed encouragement through letters. Visually Impaired - The Mission for the Visually Impaired serves people who are blind or have poor eyesight by reproducing and distributing WELS periodicals and books in Braille, large-print, and audiocassette. Our outreach extends to all those who are visually impaired. Our services are not limited to WELS members. Mental Health Needs - The purpose of the Committee on Mental Health Needs (CMHN) is to provide assistance to WELS congregations, institutions, called workers, and lay members as they minister to one another in love, especially to those who are experiencing mental health needs. |
